Preparing for Surgery

Most of the changes made in Breast Augmentation surgery are physical. When you go in for the surgery of breast enlargement you look one way and come out looking another way. Aside from the physical changes that are coming with breast augmentation, there are changes that also take place mentally as well which one needs to be prepared for. You’ve probably imagined one image of yourself in the mirror, but one must also prepare mentally to see the changes that are going to take place.

The Night Before Surgery:

  • Take any antibiotics prescribed by your surgeon
  • Do not drink or eat anything after midnight, including gum, tea, water, coffee, hard candy, mints or lozenges. Your doctor will provide specifics on food and drink intake.
  • Shower and wash your hair as usual. Do not use hairspray or mousse or hair gel.
  • If you will be staying overnight in the hospital or clinic, comb or brush, favorite pillow, pack a bathrobe, slippers, toothpaste and prescribed medications.
  • Set up a home recovery area. These may include television remote control, favorite CDs, telephone, videos, journal, stationery, humidifier, a bucket in case of vomiting, hot water bottles or heating pads, pillows, books, magazines and/or a bell or other device for requesting help.

The Day of breast implants Surgery:

  • Leave your purse at home if possible.
  • Do not wear jewelry or other valuables.
  • Do not wear moisturizer, makeup, deodorant, lipstick, hairpins or nail polish.
  • Brush your teeth and rinse with mouthwash, taking care not to swallow any liquids.
  • Bring an extra pair of underpants.
  • Bring scarf, sunglasses or hooded sweatshirt to wear when you leave the hospital if you want. Have someone to drive you back there and back. Do not drive or take a taxi.
  • If you wear eyeglasses, contact lenses or dentures bring the case with you and be sure that your name is clearly printed on it.
