Most scars heal well with no occasionally problems occurring. Scars that are red and swollen and raised are called Hypertrophic. If your scar is red, irritated or raised there are few interventions which your surgeon can help you to do:

Hypertrophic tissue and redness are reduced by using Steroid injections that have been used for many years. However, prolonged use of steroid can cause atrophy of the fat beneath the skin resulting in skin depression and the overlying skin grows excessive blood vessels. The scars can be applied with steroid containing skin tape for 24-36 hours and off for 12 hours for no longer than 6 weeks.
